The Provincial Team Program is part of the high-performance pathway and supports athletes and coaches working to reach their full potential in the sport. As an extension of the National Development Centre- BC, the goal of Team BC is to identify, train, and develop athletes motivated to represent BC in domestic and international competitions. In previous years, Team BC athletes have travelled to Hawaii, California, and Croatia for training and competition. More recently, the Team BC has competed at the National Provincial Championships in Montreal

National Training Centre - BC - Player Selection Alignment
Water Polo Canada has aligned its selection players to Age Groups National Team to the provincial team structure in all provinces. Water Polo West and Water Polo Canada have collaborated to launch a National Development Centre - BC (NDC-BC). This new initiative will act as the single pathway for athletes wishing to be selected to Age Group National Teams (AGNT). Simply stated, athletes wishing to be considered for selection to an AGNT are required to register in the NTC-BC and participate in Team BC programs. This includes:

  • Evaluation Visits by National Team Coaches

  • Selection Events (e.g. Team BC vs Other Provinces)

  • Periodic Training Sessions

  • National Provincial Team Championships

Performance Related Requirements

Development of A Yearly Training Plan
Each athlete accepted into the NDC-BC will be required to develop a Yearly Training Plan (YTP).

A YTP is a coaching tool used to plan an athlete’s annual program of training.  An athlete’s YTP can provide the coach and athlete with a general outlook of the entire season, in addition to providing organizations (Water Polo West, Water Polo Canada) with a snapshot of an athlete’s planned activities, Key Performance Indicators (KPI) and targets during a specific year.

The YTP is an important guide/road map in an athlete’s development and can provide the athlete with high degree of confidence as they approach the competitive season knowing that they are well prepared. A YTP is usually developed with input from or sometimes by your club coach. Regardless, all athletes registered in the NDC-BC are required to develop and maintain a YTP for each season.

National Provincial Championships (NPCs)
The National Provincial Championships is currently the main project for the 16U and 18U teams. This championship has historically taken place in Montreal on the first weekend after Canada day. The team will likely depart on Tuesday 2nd July and return late on Sunday 7thJuly. This project will cost $1800 plus flight costs.
