This past weekend WPW rolled out the Green Armband Initiative. The armband is worn by minor-aged refs as a reminder to coaches and spectators that these young people deserve some respect and encouragement.
The program has been implemented by a number of sports organizations in Canada who utilize minor-aged referees. They have report a reduction in ref harassment and an increase in ref retention.
The young refs who went through the Community Referee Clinic on Saturday and signed up to ref at Ethan Denum were the first to use the armbands.
You'll see green armbands at events around BC, including Metro League, Surrey Water Polo League, and wherever U19 Refs are used.
